By law, school districts and Hanover College must require a background check for any college student who is enrolled in a class with a clinical field experience or classroom work. This is included in the course description in the Hanover College Course Catalog. If you are unsure of the requirement of a particular course, contact the instructor.
Students are required to complete a Safe Hiring Solutions national background check each academic year and by the end of the first week of the term. Students who have a current academic year SHS background check run through the Hanover College Human Resources Office may request that report be shared with Education Student Services.
NOTE: Any student who does not have a current academic year background check completed will be unable to participate in their assignment in the schools until the background check is completed.
To apply for a Safe Hiring Solutions background check:
- To order your Background check with a credit or debit card, go to the following web address: https://secure.safehiringsolutions.com/app.cfm?id=0CD9A64B-5DB1-46B0-8F70-D4A056FEEE63
- Students will need to verify their account via an email from Safe Hiring. Please use your HC email address!
- Students will have access to their personal report and the Education Department faculty will be able to access this as well. This will be shared with school corporations where you are assigned.
STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF THEIR BACKGROUND CHECK WITH THEM WHEN THEY ARE IN PARTNER SCHOOL BUILDINGS. IF YOU NEED A COPY PRINTED SEE MRS. TORLINE.
There is a process for students who have a cashflow problem at the beginning of the term. If you cannot afford your $21.95 background check, please see Mrs. Torline. Students may also request a refund of their financial aid funds to pay for ordering the report. You would have to deposit those funds into your bank account.
