The Hanover College Educator Preparation Program will offer workshops each semester to discuss licensure exams and the application process.
We have also updated our STEP BY STEP tutorial for applying for Indiana Teacher Licensing via LVIS

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR STATE AND CAEP ACCREDITION, THE PRAXIS EXAMS ARE NOT PART OF THE PROCESS FOR ADVANCING IN THE PROGRAM AFTER THE 2024 COHORT
DECISON POINT 2: PASSING CONTENT AREA PRAXIS EXAM(S)
Beginning with the 2026 cohort, the CONTENT AREA exams are required to be passed at Decision Point 2 at the end of the junior year to be approved for a student teaching assignment. The student teaching assignment may be delayed until passing score reports are achieved. Student teachers must have proof of their knowledge in their content area(s). This would include the Special Education exam for those in that program and the new Science of Reading exam for Elementary Education and Special Education.
DECISON POINT 3: PASSING PEDAGOGY EXAM
Beginning with the 2025 cohort, the appropriate pedagogy exam is required to be passed at the end of student teaching to receive licensure certification by Hanover College.
#5622 Principles of Learning and Teaching for Grades K-6 (Elementary Education)
or
#5624 Principles of Learning and Teaching for Grades 5-12 (Secondary Education)
or
#5625 Principles of Learning and Teaching for Grades P-12 (Special Education or All Grade Certification)
Additional Considerations for Job Seeking Seniors....
- As a senior, you may apply to teaching positions prior to receiving your license. We recommend asking for a "good standing" status letter from the Education Department for use at job fairs and in applying for positions prior to licensing.
It does look good if we can communicate that the licensing exams and other requirements are complete. Contact Cheryl Torlline for a Good Status Letter and remember it can be edited as you meet licensing requirements via torline@hanover.edu - Request letters of recommendation from your mentor teachers, student teaching supervisor, and Hanover College faculty as early as possible and well before graduation as professors get many requests of this type.
- Keep a file for all credentials: letters of recommendation, score reports, transcript copies, student teaching evaluations, etc. in your hard drive and cloud as well as in your Tevera documents. ETS only stores score reports for a limited time and it is very costly or even impossible to get old scores if you need these in the future for seeking licensure in another state, etc. Hanover College does not keep copies of Praxis score reports.
- DO email Mrs. Torline and copy Dr. Bailey to inform us that you have completed your LVIS application! We unfortunately do not receive notifications that there is an application in our queue.
- Be sure you have PAID for the application which is a separate part of the LVIS process.
- Once the license has been coded by the Licensing Advisor, you will receive it as email attachment. You may also download it any time from LVIS.
- Keep your legal name current on your Indiana license! Check Indiana License Lookup to ensure it is accurate.

* Note you cannot change your name on your ETS account unless there is a misspelling. This is fine as scores are connected by your Social Security number. - Notify the Education Department of your employment! We are excited for you and required to track and complete data on our graduates' employment for our accreditation processes.
