After completion of the Decision Point One application process, students are admitted by a formal letter of acceptance from the Teacher Education Committee (TEC)Chairperson and are assigned an Education Department advisor (Secondary Education candidates are also assigned an advisor in their content areamajor and that they also have to declare that major as well). Frequent communication with your advisors is strongly recommended. Candidates must progress through the next two decision points as they move through the program, as outlined below. Only admitted candidates may declare an Elementary Education or Secondary Education major, but admission is not required for the Education Studies major which does not include licensure certification.
Decision Point 2: at end of Methods courses and results in approval for Student Teaching course enrollment.
- No score below a C in any Education courses
- 80% Effectiveness ratings on the final Methods course's Candidate Evaluation rubric in Lumivero ELC
- 3.67 minimum GPA in the content area major
- Passing scores on the Praxis content area exam(s)
- Decision Point 2 Portfolio/Presentation with passing scores
- Decision Point 2 Lumivero assignments all show COMPLETED
Praxis Content Areas exams for Elementary Education:
5007 English and Social Studies, 5008 Math and Science, and 5205 Reading
Praxis Content Area Exam(s) for Secondary Education:
This depends on the the major(s). If HMS major, must pass both Physical Education 5485 and Health 5551
Praxis Content Area Exam for Mild Intervention:
Must have passed Special Education: Foundational Knowledge 5355 to enroll in EDU 458 dual placement and certification.
Decision Point 3: at end of student teaching course and results in approval for teacher licensing certification
- 90% Effectiveness ratings on the final Student Teaching Candidate Evaluation(s) rubric in Lumivero ELC
- Passing score on the appropriate Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching pedagogy exam
- Decison Point 3 Presentation with passing scores
- Decision Point 3 Lumivero assignments all show COMPLETED
- Receipt of Bachelors degree
